Challenging the Norm: Combating Rape Culture and Addressing Barriers to Support is an engaging and thought-provoking presentation designed to empower college students with the knowledge and tools to challenge harmful societal norms and foster a culture of consent and accountability. This educational training session will explore the concept of rape culture, identifying everyday examples and their impact on survivors and communities. Participants will also examine common barriers to seeking support, including stigma, fear of retaliation, and institutional challenges. Through discussion and real-life scenarios, students will learn effective bystander intervention strategies to disrupt harmful behaviors and support survivors. The presentation will also feature Cause and Effect: A Domestic Violence Simulation | College and University Edition, an interactive exercise that places students in the shoes of individuals navigating the complexities of intimate partner violence. This activity will highlight the intersection of domestic violence and sexual assault, deepening participants' understanding of how various factors influence a survivor’s choices. The session will conclude with essential safety planning resources, ensuring students leave with tangible strategies to protect themselves and support others.
